Importance of Soft Skills in Technical Roles

Posted on in Sanskriti University · soft skills

Look at the global faces of Technology today and then ask yourself one thing, “Are they only there because they know how to code?” We all know the answer. It doesn’t matter how complex a technical role is, the other person will get promoted before you if you lack the soft skills. Why?  Multinational companies are not looking only for Robots to represent them at crucial positions. They want someone who has a personality, is good with communications, and has excellent problem-solving skills and more. He/she sets them apart from the crowd and lets the world know that a ‘Leader’ has arrived. If we look at the data, we will find that top CEOs are constantly looking for people who are good with soft skills. Let us now talk briefly about the importance of Soft Skills.

  • Develops Brevity in Communication- Effective Communication happens when we use the right words at the right time. If the speech is too long, people lose interest. If your soft skills are strong, you will be able to have a crisp conversation.
  • Improves Quality of Work- Strong soft skills help in improving the quality of work. The better interpersonal skills you have, the more likely you are to ask for feedback and gain the necessary inputs to improve your work.
  • Compliments Hard Skills- When technical knowledge is coupled with appropriate soft skills, it works wonders.
  • Builds Trust- No one listens to someone who is just a leader. You have to be a good listener for people to share their problems with you. Once that happens, a bond is created. This, in turn, builds trust that lasts a lifetime.

In modern times, recruiters are not willing to pay hefty amounts to select individuals who would only drive sales into the company. They look for a CEO who is more like the go-to person, a Team Leader who is more like the heart of the team, a Developer who is more likely to move out of his cubicle to help others than sit in his own space and code all day, and so on. They look for another family member to join their ‘family’. Statistically speaking, people with better soft skills are more likely to enjoy their work and get promoted early on in their career than people who do not have it at all. At Sanskriti University, we aim for the holistic development of a student. What we mean by this sentence is that along with academic knowledge we also focus on a student’s interpersonal skills. The job market in which we are today, demands that and we make sure that we make our students more than ready. Regular competitions that make them focus on their communication skills; mannerisms and behavior in general, make them ready. In conclusion, whatever the role is, students must be ready with their soft skills to be better at it.
